Tonight is, of course, Burns Night and for this and other reasons, today I am posting just one quote. Scottish poet Robert Burns, died 21st July 1796, but his birth this day in 1759 is still remembered and celebrated, particularly in Scotland:

“I pick my favourite quotations and store them in mind as ready armour, offensive or defensive, amid the struggle of this turbulent existence.”

Other birthdays today include philosopher Robert Boyle, playwright W. Somerset Maughm, writers Rufus Jones, Emil Ludwig, Virginia Woolf and poets Alden Nowlan and Tom Paulin.

I must apologise for yesterday’s post not yet making light of day! It awaits updating and will be dragged out of the privately published cabinet as soon as completed – another one for the ‘born yesterday or even earlier’ section that seems to crop up here and there!
